Vows to introduce a modern, comfortable fleet

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal utilised an Earth Day event here on Wednesday to announce that modern, comfortable and pollution-free buses would shortly be introduced in the Capital to improve the public transport system.

This would also discourage private vehicles on roads, he said.

Addressing the students at a programme marking the Earth Day at the State Secretariat here, Mr. Kejriwal said the Delhi Government was preparing an elaborate plan to keep the environment clean.

He asked the children to tell their parents to use public transport and save the city from traffic hazards.

Mr. Kejriwal recalled the success of Delhi Government’s ‘say no to crackers’ campaign and referred to the massive support and cooperation by students and children in avoiding crackers.

“Our government is serious towards environment and is having discussions on environmental issues, climate change, traffic hazards, air and water pollution, sanitation, greenery and energy conservation,” said Mr. Kejriwal.

Environment Minister Asim Ahmed Khan, who was present on the occasion, gave away prizes to the winners of a drawing competition on water conservation organised by eco-club students.
