Highly decomposed body of a leopardess was found today from a farm well near Umri (Potdar) village under Chichpalli range of forests in the Chandrapur Forest Division.

Forest department officials said that they had received information about the incident from teachers of a nearby ashram school.

They said that the leopardess could have fell into the well at least a week ago, going by the extent of decomposition of her carcass.

Honorary Wildlife Warden Bandu Dhotre said that her carcass was desposed off in the presence of forest officials as per the norms.

Since the well had a parapet wall, it is difficult to assess how the feline fell into the well, he said.

Veterinary doctors were of the opinion that the leopardess died due to drowning and ruled out any chances of poaching since all her body parts were found intact, he said.
