Nagpur: In another path-breaking success, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday nabbed two allegedly dreaded tiger poachers from little known Limoh near Gandai village in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh, 225km from here.

With the arrest of two accused, identified as Juttu Ramdas Pardhi (35) and Bainiram Ramdas Pardhi (30), the number of arrests in several cases of poaching in 2012-13 has gone up to 39. This may perhaps be the biggest tiger poaching case in the country.

With the latest arrest, the number of tigers that have been poached in Vidarbha region is likely to go up now. TOI has already reported last year that separate gang of poachers removed at least 20-25 tigers from the region. The forest department has itself put the number at 15. However, after tiger poacher Kuttu Pardhi's revelation, it seems the number of tigers poached may be more than 25.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of CBI and forest officials raided the residence of the two accused around 5.15am on Saturday and caught them. Both the accused were brought to Nagpur and produced before judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) DS Parwani late Saturday evening.

Appearing for CBI, special counsel Kartik Shukul demanded police custody remand (PCR) of the accused, which was granted till March 20. He told the court that the two accused are seasoned poachers and will throw more light on the poaching of tigers in POR 32/2013. Prakash Masurkar, appearing for the accused, opposed the application for PCR.

Though Juttu and Bainiram's names don't figure in the earlier list of those wanted by the forest department, they were revealed by Kuttu who was arrested by the CBI sleuths from Biruhali in Katni ( MP) on March 3. There are 28 poachers who are still absconding.

Both Juttu and Bainiram are masterminds and they not only used to kill tigers but also traded them across the borders. Both have huge property including immovable assets in Chhattisgarh. A source said the accused were even linked to the late Sansar Chand's gang.

Kuttu has already admitted to have killed two tigers. One tigress was poached with the help of Juttu and Bainiram in Gaimukh area of Lendezari in Bhandara division. Another male is suspected to have poached from Katangi area in Balaghat.
