NGT conference on global environment issues on today

With a view to help the environment and mitigate the impact of climate change, the National Green Tribunal, the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, FICCI and the Indian Law Institute are organising an international conference on global environmental issues. The event will see the participation of nearly 30 nations.

The conference, scheduled for March 14-15, will bring together legal luminaries like United Kingdom Supreme Court judge Justice Robert John Anderson Carnwath and Professor Upendra Baxi, among others.

A curtain-raiser is being organised at FICCI on Thursday, where NGT chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar will address the gathering. NGT’s judicial member Justice P. Jyothimani, expert member D.K. Agrawal and Registrar-General Sanjay Kumar will also address the event.

Vice-President Hamid Ansari will be the chief guest at the conference, which will be presided over by Chief Justice H. L. Dattu. Union Minister of State for Environment & Forests Prakash Javadekar and Attorney-General Mukul Rohatgi will be the guests of honour.

The Day One will discuss issues like facets of global warming, disaster management and improving public health. Day Two will see sessions on forest, wildlife, development, environment and municipal solid waste management.
