Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said he was confident that solar energy will become economically viable in the coming days.

"Taking into view ongoing research, I'm confident that in the coming days we will be in a position to make solar energy economically viable. Saving electricity is the need of the hour, the more energy we save, the more we will protect our future generations," Prime Minister Modi said at the inauguration of the first Renewable Energy Global Investors Meet and Expo, RE-Invest 2015.

"The sector of utilization of renewable energy is an article of faith for me. Whenever we mentioned 'Energy', we talked in terms of MW, for the first time we are talking in terms of GW," he added.

The Prime Minister said lakhs of families are still deprived of energy and we must use our resources to the optimum level.

"The poor of the nation want their children to be well educated, but their children are not able to study at night during exams. I think of villages that are shrouded in darkness and that's why I am looking for new ways," he added.

Talking about the issue of climate change, Prime Minister Modi said that due to lifestyle changes we are utilising the future generations' share of resources.

"The world is making efforts to address the issue of climate change in different ways, but we never look down to our own lifestyle. Our lifestyle has changed to an extent that we are utilizing our future generations' share of resources," he pointed out.

The Prime Minister also stressed that India can show the ways of protecting humankind from the effects of global warming.

"If there is any nation that can show ways of protecting humankind from global warming to the world, it is India. We love nature, we regard our rivers as our mothers, this is a part of our behaviour," Prime Minister Modi stated.

The Re-invest 2015 Expo seeks to evolve innovative financial models for funding and aims to promote the partnership between the states and the Centre in harnessing renewable energy.

The meet is showcasing the government's commitment to the development of renewable energy and will help attract large scale investments for solar and wind power generation in the nation.
