BHUBANESWAR: A Sambalpur court on Friday granted the Crime Branch (CB) six more days of remand of ivory smuggler Afzal Beg.
After the end of the three-day remand, the CB produced Beg before the court and submitted a petition for seven more days of custody. However, the court sanctioned six days remand.
Beg, a resident of Dundu village in Mayurbhanj’s Rairangpur block, was arrested by the CB near Odisha-Jharkhand border on Monday. He is believed to be the major player in running elephant poaching units in Sambalpur region as well as smuggling of tusks. He is also accused of poaching in Jharkhand.
The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau has also quizzed Beg who will be reproduced before the court on January 8.
