RAIPUR: In a bid to control the growing industrial pollution in Raipur and adjacent areas, Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) could relocate industries from the industrial areas of Siltara and Urla. An idea to the effect was mooted on Wednesday at the the 32nd state board meeting of CECB.

Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Housing and Environment Department, N Baijendra Kumar, who presided over the meeting, said though the idea for relocating the industries has been mooted, a final decision in this regard will be taken only after discussions with the concerned industrialist.

The board has also decided to organize seminar and other public awareness programmes, in association with Urban Administration and Development Department, regarding ban of plastic bags in the state from January, 2015.

Meanwhile, the meeting also reviewed the online context management system of the board. Member Secretary Devendra Singh informed that under this system, nearly 1200 applicants have been registered till date and around 152 industries have applied for authorization.

While reviewing the Continuous Air Monitoring Station for air pollution control, it was suggested that the station should be established at a suitable location in AIIMS premise or National Institute of Technology (NIT). Kumar said big LED screens will be installed at Raipur Collectorate and all other stations for proper display of the collected pollution data.

The board was informed by the Bilaspur Municipal Corporation Commissioner that NTPC could start Continuous Ambient Air Monitoring Station at their premises.
