Japanese delegation visits TN village

MADURAI: A delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) inspected T Ellaiyur village, near Vadipatti, in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.

The Tamil Nadu Afforestation Project (TAP) 1998 has been implemented under the JICA that involves planting in nearby forest and barren lands, conservation of soil and construction of check dams and percolation ponds and development of villages bordering the forest areas.

The Japanese team is assessing the success of the project in 30 randomly selected villages covered under the TAP scheme, according to forest officials.

The team will visit T Ellaiyur village and interact with the villagers.

They would also inspect nearby Vagathumalai Reserve Forest to assess the success of afforestation measures taken up by forest department, official sources from Madurai Forest department said.
