KARANG (MANIPUR), Oct 4 – The People for Animals(PFA) Thoubal on Saturday celebrated World Animal Day and its third foundation day at the picturesque Karang Island, located in the middle of Loktak Lake.

Local leaders, youth clubs, meira paibis and students attended the celebration held at Karang primary school.

Wildlife-related activities including showing of audio visual clips and re-activation of ‘Greet our Guest’ campaign marked the celebration aimed at protecting the migratory birds which visit the State’s wetlands during the winter. Karang Island, 50 kms from Imphal, is one of the breeding and feeding sites of the migratory birds when winter sets in.

In his address, chief guest Ningthem appealed to the villagers to protect wildlife and to show compassion to the animals. AK Prem Meitei of PFA Thoubal informed the gathering that the PFA Thoubal has been renamed as PFA Manipur with the advice of the PFA Delhi head office.

“This winter, PFA will do their best to protect migratory birds. No poachers will be spared. We will keep an eye on hotels and food vendors in the State which offer bird meat. We will conduct meetings with village authorities and police to control poaching of birds”, he added.
