The Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC) will install equipment at residential, commercial areas and silence zone to gather data on air and noise pollution in the city during Diwali festival.
Apart from the day of Diwali, data will also be collected a week before Diwali between 8pm and 10pm.
According to a recent survey conducted by CPCC at Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), Sector 39; Industrial Area, Phase 1; Kaimbwala; Punjab Engineering College (PEC); and Sector 17, air quality in the city has deteriorated in the past few years.
According to the survey, the level of pollutants - respiratory suspended particulate matter (RSPM) and suspended particulate matter (SPM) - was more than permissible limits of 60 microgram per cubic metre.
The noise pollution is measured by sound level meter, while SPM and RSPM level meters are used to gauge air pollution.
In previous years, data from nearly seven locations was gathered. As per the arrangements in the past, the department used to outsource the job to four private laboratories, while it collected samples from three locations on its own.
