Animal sacrifice at Kaziranga, Bokakhat

BOKAKHAT, Oct 5 – Like in previous years, devotees from different places of Assam and the local devotees offered more than hundred sacrificial animals including ducks, goats, pigeons and buffaloes etc., on the day of Mahastami Puja in the Kakogushani thaan (Kaziranga) and Kakogushani thaan (Chaatni, Bokakhat).

In the Kaziranga Thaan, two buffaloes were sacrificed while in the Bokakhat Thaan, two buffaloes were set free after offering puja and one was sacrificed.

The Idols of Goddess Durga were immersed in the Difolu and Dhansiri rivers at Numaligarh. More than 40 puja pandals were set up by the puja committees in the area which has more than 20 tea gardens. No untoward incident took place during the celebrations.

In Bokakhat town, the Bokakhat Yuva Manch celebrated the festival in a unique manner. In addition to the puja programme , the committee exhibited various probable sequences of poaching rhinos in the Kaziranga National Park with a view to create awareness among the masses.
