CHANDIGARH, JUNE 5: Former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi seems to be in a tight spot with the Jhajjar police recovering carcasses of a deer and two rabbits besides two guns and 50 cartridges from a vehicle in which he and his friends were travelling on Friday.

No case has been registered so far. Inspector General, Rohtak, V.N. Rai told The Indian Express that the police had made relevant entries regarding recovery of carcasses and weapons in the DDR but would wait for the post-mortem report of the animals and legal opinion before converting it into an FIR.

‘‘The weapons seized from the vehicle are mostly used for hunting but since nobody has seen Pataudi and his friends hunting, we are waiting for legal opinion,’’ said Rai, while confirming that Pataudi and seven others were travelling in the same vehicle.

According to Rai, the post-mortem of the animals is expected tomorrow, after which further action would be taken. Rai said the ownership of the vehicle from which the dead animals were found was yet to be ascertained.

Pataudi has not been questioned so far and he was not driving the vehicle, the IG added.

Those named in the DDR entry are Pataudi and his friends, Shashi Singh, Dyal Singh, Balwan Singh, Shahid Ahmad, Mohammad Ayub, Yasudin and Madan.
