Mandi prepares to fight climate change

The Hindustan Times , Wednesday, July 16, 2014
Correspondent :
Mandi became a part of the increasing network of Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN) which has connected more than 40 core cities in India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. The network aims to improve the capacity of cities to withstand, prepare for and recover from climate change challenges.

Mandi municipal council’s officiating executive officer Ajay Parashar took the initiative along with the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) South Asia to organise the first international Shared Learning Dialogue (SLD) at a day-long workshop at Mandi on Tuesday.

He said, “I thank ICLEI South Asia for selecting Mandi town to develop the Climate Resilience Strategy (CRS). Mandi has its own challenges with respect to climate change and thus requires robust climate and vulnerability assessment.”

He added the vision of the program was to build resilience to climate change across fragile urban systems and populations.
