NEW DELHI: After actor Salman Khan, it's former cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi who is embroiled in a controversy for allegedly poaching deer and rabbits, protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act. Haryana police registered an FIR against him and seven others at Jhajjar police station on Sunday, confirmed Rohtak IG VN Rai.

On Friday, a police team — led by DSP Tika Ram — stopped the vehicle in which the accused were travelling and recovered carcass of one deer and two rabbits, besides some cartridges.

Though no arrests have been made so far, Rai added that Pataudi and others would be called to give statements later this week.

Repeated attempts to contact Pataudi at his Delhi residence proved futile. An initial entry in the daily diary register named Pataudi, Shashi Singh, Dayal Singh, Balwan Singh, Shahid Ahmed, Mohd Ayub, Yasudin and Madan, say reports.

Naresh Kumar Kadiya, chairman of the Haryana chapter of People For Animals (PFA) and Union environment ministry's nodal inspecting authority for Haryana and Rajasthan, said the carcass recovered had been taken to Delhi zoo for post-mortem.

Delhi zoo director B S Bonal said the cause of death would be known after the post-mortem.
