'Climate change biggest health threat'

ALLAHABAD: Former director prof and head of medicine, MLN Medical College, Dr DK Nigam has recently returned after participating in the international RACP Congress 2014 on 'Future Directions in Health' organized by The Royal Australasian College of Physicians at Aukland, Newzealand.

Dr Nigam said many aspects to improve the health were discussed. Climate change (CS) was considered the biggest health threat of this century. An urgent need was felt to take actions regarding health benefits. Better diet, walking and cycling will improve the health and reduce carbon emissions.

Less use of electrical or electronic appliances, lights, less use of cars, especially with non-efficient combustion, will reduce air pollution. Healthy eating, more plant-based food having more of vegetables, whole grains, fruits, nuts and yogurt and less red meat, less processed food, less chips and less sugar products have been advised, he said.
