VADODARA: From elocution contests to quiz, debates, musical gigs and flash mobs — a series of programmes will mark the World Environment Day on Thursday.

Ahead of the day, students of city-based Parul Group of Institutes spread the message — 'Environment is a Family: Let's Reunite' through a rally in which over 500 people participated.

The two-hour rally from Chakli circle to Kalaghoda circle registered under the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) saw students dressed as plants, animals and human beings carrying banners, distributing plants, picking up garbage from the streets they passed and urging all the onlookers to fulfill their responsibility towards the environment.

On Thursday, budding engineers of M S University's Faculty of Technology and Engineering will carry out an environmental protection campaign. Last year, the team had successfully attempted for the world record by making largest paper bag to create awareness for their use.

"This year, we are organizing the campaign at the Centre Square Mall from 6 pm onwards. This campaign includes a musical gig to be performed by 'Seventy7's', 'B-OMG' ,'Kyrons' and a flash mob performance to create awareness among the people about the need for environment protection," said a student Dhrumil Shah.

"Also, paper bag distribution to the visitors will be held to encourage the use of recycled paper bags and to reduce the pollution created by use of plastic bags," said another student Miraj Patel.

There will be nine corporate teams participating in the quiz and they would also give a presentation on environment friendly best practices followed by their companies. The quiz is conducted every year by quizmaster Raj Dam.
