On World Environment Day on June 5, various organisations have lined up a slew of programmes, all aimed at promoting eco awareness

The city is going to turn green on June 5, marking the World Environment Day.

Keeping their focus on the current year’s theme ‘Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) and climate change’, several green warriors plan to make a difference in their own way by bringing out green concepts.

Officials, NGOs, and employees of various organisations have drawn up a number of competitions on the occasion.

The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board is conducting its annual competitions in drawing, essay-writing, and elocution on its premises in Madhavadhara VUDA Colony on June 3.

On June 5, it is planning a green rally on the Beach Road at 6.30 a.m., in which its staff, industry representatives, and local NGO members are expected to participate.

“Interestingly, the awareness level on environment conservation has gone up among all age groups. Today, people have a fair idea of what industrialisation or urbanisation is all about and its impact on environment,” says K. Venkateswara Rao, Joint Chief Environmental Engineer of the APPCB.

On June 2, the Muralinagar Walkers’ Club is organising elocution and essay-writing competitions at the Walkers’ Park near Sector 8 in the area.

The India Youth for Society is hosting a seminar on ‘Solid waste management’ at the Visakhapatnam Public Library on June 1.

Ken Foundation is hosting a creative competition known as ‘Recycle ideas’ on June 5.

It aims at promoting the concept of ‘Best out of waste’.

From a simple idea of giving a new form to newspapers to surprising your friend by gifting an eco-friendly product made from recycled material, the contest allows one to get creative.
