LUCKNOW: Introducing disaster management as a subject in school and college curriculum will create awareness among the future leaders in better management of disasters. Eminent people from the field of disaster management and environment sciences on Friday had a workshop on 'mainstreaming of climate change adaption and disaster risk reduction' at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University.

During the discussion, it came out that organizations working in the field of disaster management should be trained and they should shoulder their responsibilities for effective implementation of disaster management plans. Also, local people should be made aware of the hazards and associated disasters, in order to save life and property. Identification of gaps and lack of knowledge in various departments such as rural development, administration, health, education, agriculture, panchayat, flood division and others will also help in tackling the problem.

Dignitaries discussed factors and issues related to management of natural hazards and subsequent disasters occurring globally and particularly India. Experts emphasized on using the modern technologies such as remote sensing, mapping, GIS to reduce risk f disasters.
