Three-day District Annual Wild Animal Census Begins Today

| The three-day annual wild animal census will start in the district on Friday. The census, from March 7 to 9, will be conducted at four ranges in the district — Srivilliputhur, Rajapalayam, Watrap and Sattur — an area of 485 sq/km.
It is done using the block count method due to which the forest areas in the district are divided into 35 blocks. It is done with the help of students volunteers, environmentalists and forest officials. Each of the 35 teams will have a forest guard, an anti-poaching watcher, a helper and two student volunteers.
A training programme will be held by T K Ashok Kumar, wildlife warden, Srivilliputhur Squirrel Sanctuary.
