Seminar on Watershed Planning

A national seminar on ‘Spatial Technologies for Watershed Planning’, for discussing various strategies for the utilisation of spatial technologies for effective land use planning, will be held here from Wednesday.

Minister for Rural Development K C Joseph will inaugurate the two-day seminar, organised by the Kerala State Land Use Board, at the Kanakakunnu Palace.

The seminar will mainly focus on creating awareness on the role of remote sensing, Geographical Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), and geo spatial technology for effective land use planning. The seminar will be attended by representatives from Local Self Govts, officials from various depts, scientists in charge of research and planning in research organisations, universities and NGOs, progressive farmers and students.

Discussions on climate change and watershed management, geo-spatial information systems for watershed planning, watershed planning for sustainable agriculture and sustainable land use systems will be held as part of the seminar. ENS
