NAGPUR: Tiger skin trader Dalbir Bawaria, who claimed to have trafficked two tiger skins from here last year, was on Wednesday sent to magisterial custody (MCR) by Kamptee judicial magistrate first class (JMFC).

Dalbir was arrested by Wildlife Crime Control Bureau ( WCCB) officials from Samalakha village in Panipat district of Haryana on November 21.

Dalbir's forest custody (FCR) was sought twice by the forest department but nothing fruitful could come out from the interrogation. The investigating officials were of the view that Dalbir is handicapped and may not be involved in poaching of tigers himself. He was a carrier.

Dalbir was booked for trafficking of a tiger skin from Ranala (Kamptee) but officials say he showed spots where he had stayed with poachers in camps set up near Sevagram in Wardha district.

In another development, seven poachers who are directly involved in poaching of two leopards, tiger and a bear in Ghatang in East Melghat, on Wednesday applied for bail in the court of JMFC R B Raja.

The accused include Nirafal, his son Srival and wife Minar besides Lupustan and Ujiyaar. All were arrested in Pune by a team from Melghat in August second week. Another poacher Siri, whose area of operation was Melghat, has also applied for bail.
