VADODARA: Is climate change alarming in India? Scientists from across the country will discuss this on Saturday at a national seminar organized jointly by M S University's Department of Botany and the Indian Association for Air Pollution Control (IAAPC).
Eminent speakers from across the country will present their thoughts on different aspects of environment and climate in India, including the recent disaster at Kedarnath, which caused loss of several lives. The seminar will be inaugurated by MSU vice-chancellor professor Yogesh Singh at professor C C Mehta auditorium where vice-chancellor of Ujjain-based Vikram University professor R C Verma will be the guest of honour.
Additional director and zonal officer of Central Pollution Control Board (west zone) B R Naidu will also discuss present environmental scenario of the country.
The theme lecture will be delivered by Dr R Ramesh from National Physical Laboratory, Ahmedabad, who has been awarded the Bhatnagar Award for outstanding research.
Dr Ramesh has developed various models to study changes in plants on earth surface and coral and marine vegetation in oceans. He has studied the changes in climate in past era using dendrochronology or the science of growth rings sowing changes in climatic pattern.
Professor C Manoharachary, emeritus professor at Hyderabad's Osmania University, will speak on climate change and food security. Other important participants, include Dr Manish Mishra from Forest Research Institute, Bhopal, professor Neera Kapoor from IGNOU, New Delhi, professor G D Agrawal from Chitrakoot, professor R V Shukla from Bilaspur, S K Gupta from New Delhi and professor M Anis from Aligarh Muslim University.
