On the occasion of International Mountain Day, Al Sarwat Foundation in collaboration with Al’Ahad College of Higher Education and Al’Sarwat Students Co-ordination for Environmental Planning (ASSCEP- a Non governmental Organization) today organized a seminar here in Dakbanglow.

The function was presided over by District Development Commissioner (DDC), Anantnag, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone.

A seminar titled “Mountains key to sustainable development” was conducted wherein papers were presented by different speakers.

A power point presentation was also given regarding the ‘Impact ofclimate change on Mountains’ by the Chairman of the Foundation DrZulfikar Sidiqque in the day long function. DDC Anantnag presided overthe function.

The speakers who spoke on the occasion included Wildlife Warden South Imtiyaz Ahmad; renowned trekker and hiker and Chairman Mohamaden mountaineering club, Atta Muhammad Mir, Waseem Bari Agoo and Adil Karim Sheikh of Glacier Trekking Mountaineering Club Anantnag.

Executive Officer Pahalgam Bashir Ahmad Dar; Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anantnag and religious scholar Sameer Shafi Sidiqque.

The Foundation also felicitated Glacier Trekking and Mountaineering club for being dedicated & committed Trekker & Hiker group of the State and presented a Memento with a citation.

DDC, Anantnag Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone in his address impressed upon protecting the environment. “The sustainable tourism development is always accompanied by protection of environment including forests, mountains and water bodies,” DDC said.

He lauded the efforts of the Foundation and expressed his satisfaction of its functioning.

A booklet titled, ‘Adaptation of climatic changes with special emphasis on tourism and Industries’ compiled by Zulfikar Siddique was also released on the occasion. Later, the wild life Department also organized a seminar on Man Animal Conflict.
