GUWAHATI: Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has lauded the efforts of the 135 INF Bn (Territorial Army) eco task force and exhorted the force to plant more trees to make earth greener.

"At a time when climate change is affecting us all, your task is more challenging. We want our state to be lush and green for sustainable development and for the present and future generations," he told a group of 25 ex-servicemen belonging to the task force when the team, led by Col B P Segan, called on Gogoi at his official residence here recently.

The chief minister hoped the eco task force would earn more laurels and scale new heights in the field of environment in future, his office said.

Col Segan apprised the chief minister about the contribution of the task force in extending the green cover in the state through its massive afforestation drives by involving joint forest management committees, NGOs, school and college students. He said, "Our mission is to make Assam not only greener but the greenest state in the country. The task force has taken up the task of planting saplings on 900 acres every year as per rules set by the environment and forest department,"
