The Energy and Research Institute (TERI) has selected Hitkarni Engineering College and Technology's multi-storied building in Jabalpur for green building certification. It would be the first building in Madhya Pradesh to get this certification.

Fellow specialist of TERI Pradeep Kumar and Architect Prasun Shrivastava informed that TERI certified structures built on international standard as green building.

Mr Kumar informed that the Engineering College being constructed near Jabalpur Airport has been selected for green building certification. The TERI has been constituted to certify the structures built on eco-friendly measures specified by the Institute.

The architect informed that the objective behind certification is to promote eco-friendly buildings. These buildings cause minimum damage to environment and less air pollution. They are designed and constructed in such a way, that it receives maximum sunlight during day, to save power.

Similarly, the doors and windows are designed keeping in view the air current. Besides, the walls are constructed in such a manner that temperature in the house is kept constant. The rain water and waste materials are recycled in the building.

Modern techniques and norms specified by TERI would give new direction to building construction in the state.
