CPR Environmental Education Centre opens exhibition on elephants

CHENNAI: The CPR Environmental Education Centre (CPREEC) opened an exhibition on elephants at the C P Art Centre in Alwarpet on Thursday.

The exhibition will be held from 10am to 5.30pm till November 1, except on Sunday. Principal chief conservator of forests and chief wildlife warden of Tamil Nadu forest department Lakshmi Narayan inaugurated the exhibition.

The centre will also organize competitions for college and school students during the period to make them understand the importance of conservation of elephants. The major threats to the animals include habitat loss, limited migratory corridors and poaching, according to the CPREEC.

The exhibition is part of the three expos organised by the CPREEC every year. So far, the centre has organised 75 exhibitions. After the exhibition in Chennai, it will travel to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Pudhuchery, Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands targeting educational institutions.
