MCR of tiger poachers extended till Sept 24

NAGPUR: A local court extended the magisterial custody of 12 tiger poaching case accused till September 24 on Tuesday.

Of the 12 accused, Parman and Soberam Sawalkar, both residents of Masondi in Melghat, who had harboured tiger poachers, had been earlier granted bail, but since they have failed to produce surety bonds they are still languishing in jail.

Of the other 10 organized poachers, forest department has filed charge sheet against Siri, Mamru, Chika, Barsul, and Yarlen. Their custody along with Nirafal Chouhan, his wife Minar and son Surival, and Lupustan and Ujiyar was extended till September 24.

In the meanwhile, forest officials said that special counsel dealing with the case Kartik Shukul has reached New Delhi to seek transit custody of wildlife traders Suraj Pal, Sarju Bagdi and Naresh Lala.

Sarju (28), a resident of Akbarpur Bharota in Sonipat (Haryana), is an illiterate and has been committing wildlife crime for the past many years. Naresh Lala (32), a resident of Akbarpur Bharota, has studied till VI and is a school dropout.

Suraj Pal alias Chacha (65), was a resident of Majalis Park, Adarsh Nagar, Delhi. He too is an illiterate and has been in the trade for more than 20 years. All are said to be closely linked to jailed tiger poacher Sansar Chand.
