Poachers kill three peacocks

KANPUR: Three peacocks were killed by poachers at Chaturipur village in Ghatampur on Monday.When the poachers were carrying the carcasses, the villagers raised an alarm. The poachers left the carcasses in the agricultural fields and escaped. A case under Wildlife Act had been registered.The Sajeti police said that the three poachers have been identified and raids are underway to nab them. They have booked under Section 39, 9, 44 of the Wildlife Protection Act-1972.The authorities of the forest department also reached the spot and began investigations.

A forest official said: "The postmortem would be conducted to find out the cause of death. Going by the initial findings, it appears as that the death of peacocks was due to consumption of poisonous feed."

In a peahen poaching incident from Paibandi village of Chakeri on July 2, cops have not been able to make any breakthrough.
