KSPCB shuts 118 industries in BBMP limits

The Karnataka Pollution Control Board (KSPCB ) has ordered for closure of 118 polluting industries with in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits in the year 2012-13.

In a written reply to a question asked by Congress MLA N A Harris, Forest Minister B Ramanath Rai said that in 2011-12 the board had ordered for closure of 60 highly polluting industries in the city.

All these industries had failed to comply with environment standards. Nine industries were listed for closure in 2010-11, he said.

‘Air Pollution is Main Concern’

The minister said that air pollution was the main health concern in the capital city. Rai said that the Pollution Control Board officials were frequently checking industries in and around the Bangalore city to ascertain the extent of pollution in the capital.
