NAGPUR: Two suspected tiger poachers belonging to the Baheliya community of Katni in Madhya Pradesh who have been detained in Jabalpur are likely to be brought to the city to probe their connection with poaching incidents in the region.
The meeting between Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh forest officials, called against the backdrop of series of poaching incidents in the region, was held for around two hours in Civil Lines on Monday. SS Mishra, additional principal chief conservator of forests (APCCF) for wildlife, Nagpur, East, five-member team set up to look into poaching incidents, representatives of field directors, and territorial officials from Nagpur attended the meeting.
From MP, three CCFs led by CK Patil (Bhopal), who was present as representative of MP chief wildlife warden and Pench field director Alok Kumar, were present.
The forest officials stressed the need for creating independent cyber cell to unearth wildlife crimes. "We laid stress on creating database of wildlife criminals with individual pictures and their area of operation, besides sharing intelligence information," said Mishra.
Three days ago, Jabalpur forest officials had intercepted the two poachers. The investigating team in Nagpur may explore links with three arrested poachers Badlu, Chika and Siri, who have been remanded to magisterial custody till July 3. "We will bring the two poachers to Nagpur," said Mishra.
