Guwahati, April 28 (ANI): Assam state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged protests in Guwahati over the recurring poaching of one-horned rhinoceros in Kaziranga National park and other sanctuaries.

Chief of Assam state unit of (BJP), Sarbananda Sonowal demanded the government to take immediate steps to halt the killings.

"Tourists from the different parts of the world, visit and enjoy the beautiful and natural environment of Kaziranga particularly for the presence of one horned rhino. Now, the Congress government at Dispur under the leadership of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, are allowing the process to kill it day and night and through this killing they are particularly earning black money by selling out the one horned rhino in the International market," added Sonowal.

Kaziranga is home to a vast number of the famed and endangered species of wildlife in Assam and these include the rhinos and the striped feline beauties of tigers.

The protestors blamed the government for its failure to halt rhino killings in the sanctuary.

Holding placards demanding safety of the precious one horn rhinoceros, they gathered on the roads of Guwahati.

The protestors also demanded an inquiry by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for this issue of poaching and exploitation of forest wealth. (ANI)
