Shades of Green

Some common phrases we hear around Delhi at this time of the year are “It’s so hot these days” and “As soon as winter is over, the temperature hits the roof”. I didn’t give much thought as to why it was so hot in the capital. The other day, I said the same to my mother as we were going towards the Cantonment area.

When we entered the army base, I felt a difference. The area was green and the air was cool. I appreciated the dip in temperature and realised that it was because of the trees.

Trees stood mighty and tall at the entrances of the buildings. I felt comfortable in the clean environment and the fresh breeze rejuvenated me.

It was a quick lesson for me on the importance of trees and the role they play in preventing climate change and global warming.

We must plant more trees and not cut them. Let’s not label human race as destroyers of this beautiful planet.
