KOHIMA: Indiscriminate felling of trees, poaching and unplanned development were creating problems for Nagaland, which was the face of climate change in the state, Environment and Wildlife minister Y Patton said on Monday.

"Nagaland is vulnerable to climate change as per scientific reports, our forest area is dwindling, there will be shifting of the plant species to higher altitudes and in due course of time some plant species will disappear," Patton told an Earth Day programme here.

"We are exhausting the planet's natural resources and aggravating climate change, which in turn threatens life-sustaining ecosystems and the economy," he said.

Calling for creation of green Schools, homes and offices, the minister said that creating awareness among all stakeholders including school children, NGOs and women was needed.

Pledging to work for a sustainable future to save earth, he urged the people to gift plants to friends and relatives during occasions to fulfil the green pledge which was administered during the function.
