TIGERS MAY roam again in Sariska in the near future. The only difference will be that they will be wearing radio collars to help wildlife officials keep track of them. , The Rajasthan government's Empowered Committee on Forest and Wildlife Management has asked scientists who've carried out radio-collaring projects in the, past to provide details of how soon this can be done.

Scientists have also been asked to prepare a frame work to schedule translocation of some tigers ---half a dozen to start with ---into", Sariska. Sources told the Hindustan Times that the state would also be advised to begin Immediate restoration of other environmental losses at Sariska, especially reforestation to compensate large-scale felling of trees.

A comprehensive strategy for systematic revival of the tiger population in Sariska needs to be developed," said a committee member. "We plan to call for feasibility reports on translocation of tigers," he added. Lok Sabha member from Bhilwara V.P. Singh, who heads the Empowered Committee, said, "There have been doubts raised about whether

figures were exaggerated in censuses conducted in the past. This time, we want to be certain that there is absolutely no room for doubt. And that will mean that we should be in a better position to determine what steps need to be taken thereafter."
