Seminar on "Environmental Pollution: Global concern"

Amity School of Engineering and Technology of Amity University conducted a seminar on "Environmental Pollution: A Global Concern" on 20th March 2013. The seminar started with traditional lighting of lamp and Saraswati Vandana. Inaugurating the seminar, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. V. K. Sharma delivered his opening remarks on the theme by focusing on current perspectives of environmental pollution and its management concerns on a global scale. He emphasized the need for awareness and implementation of strategies to reduce the menace due to environmental pollution. He also stressed the need to undertake promotional and research activities in the theme area to tackle the issues on a regional and national basis.

Prof. S. P. Bajpai, Dean-Research of Amity University Madhya Pradesh delivered the keynote address to the participants of the seminar. He presented the various issues of environmental pollution, such as climate change, conservation, energy, environmental degradation, environmental health, genetic engineering, intensive farming, land degradation, soil and land use, nanotechnology, nuclear issues, overpopulation, and ozone depletion. He focused on the need for adopting most appropriate strategies to minimize the impact of these issues arising due to environmental pollution. He also enlightened the audiences by his informative converse on 'Environment in Action in a Natural Ecosystem', with special reference to Kanha Tiger Reserve.

The students of first year B.Tech. (MAE) of the Amity University delivered a number of well- researched presentations with sub-themes in Introduction to Environmental Pollution at Global Level, Health Hazards due to Drinking Water Pollution, Marine Pollution and Agro Pollution and its Impact on Living Beings, Noise and Air Pollution, its Causes, Effects and Remedies and Global Warming and Greenhouse Effect. Mr.Kuldeep Sharma, Mr. Rohit Singh, Mr. Samarth Saxena and Mr. Naveen Dwivedi presented a paper on 'Introduction to Environmental Pollution at Global Level. Mr. Ankit Soni, Mr. Arpit Shrivastava, Mr. Rachit Pandey and Mr. Aditya Sekhar presented a paper on 'Health Hazards due to Drinking Water Pollution. Mr. Manish Tirthani, Mr. Ankit Shivhare, Mr. K. Balaji Nanda and Mr. Pranay Trivedi presented a paper on 'Marine Pollution and Agro Pollution-Impact on Living beings'. Mr. Pritish Phadnish, Mr. Rishav Chauhan, Mr. Sudhanshu Shrivastav and Mr. Mayank Singh presented a paper on 'Noise and Air Pollution- Causes, Effects and Remedies'. Mr. Anurag S. Chauhan, Mr. Palash Ranjan Sachdeva, Mr. Rajat Verma and Dharmendra Singh presented a paper on 'Global Warming and Green house Effect'. The student presentations were formalized under the active guidance of Dr. Bikram K. Bahinipati, Mr. Shekhar Nadeem Mev and Dr. Sanjay Gomasta of the Mechanical Engineering Department.

The programme was hosted by Ms. Charushi Rupani and Ms. Meenal Pawar (2ndYear B.Tech. in CSE).

Participation certificates were distributed to all the speakers of the seminar by the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, AU MP. A number of professionals, researchers and educationists from Gwalior also volunteered to participate in the seminar. The Dean (Academics), Registrar, Director (Administration), Heads of Schools, faculty members, staff members and students were present on the occasion. A vote of thanks was proposed by the Convener of the programme. The programme was conducted by Dr. Bikram K. Bahinipati, Deputy Director and Head of Amity School of Engineering and Technology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh. The event was highlighted by overwhelming participation by students of Amity University and other institutes, which was organized in the packed-house auditorium of the university. The seminar ended with a standing ovation to the guest speakers, student presenters and the organizers.
