Trees felled for illegal sand mining in Gauribidanur

Circle Police Inspector V Lakshmaiah on Saturday visited the tank bed of Chikkere tank at Naamagondlu in the taluk, where miscreants had chopped trees to carry out illegal sand mining.

Lakshmaiah inspected the spots where trees had been chopped and sand had been mined illegally.

“Illegal sand mining will not be allowed at the tank bed at any cost. Strict action will be taken against the culprits who have chopped the trees. Protection will be provided to entire area. Policemen and Forest department officials will also carry out further investigations,” he added.

Curb tree felling

Forest guards will be appointed on a permanent basis to man the entire area and to curb illegal tree cutting, said Range Forest Officer Nagaraj.

Manchenahalli police station Sub Inspector Sudhakar Reddy, Revenue Department Inspector Ramachandraiah, Taluk Raitha Sangha president Lakshminarayan, Sectary Lokesh Gowda, Shendi Ashwathappa, Muddarangappa and others were present on the occasion.

It can be recalled that the members of the Raitha Sangha-Hasiru Sene had staged a dharna against illegal tree cutting and demanded protection of the trees.
