The summit was held by chewen.com, the world's first professional auto Q&A website based on Social Network Site (SNS) with real-name registration system, and attended by heads of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, National Indoor Environment and Indoor Environmental Quality Supervision Test Center and China Passenger Car Association. It brought together over 200 executives of China’s 30 major auto manufacturing and sales companies, and nearly 50 mainstream auto-related media in China.

The Geely Emgrand EC8 earned a spot in Top 10 Healthy Cars for 2012 for its stunning performance in the first Inspection Report on Healthy Cars issued and the second in-vehicle hazardous substances test conducted by the same website. In September 2012, chewen.com took a thorough in-car test to detect the strong carcinogen of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) and released an Inspection Report on Healthy Cars. As the report revealed, among the 32 brands detected, 11 out of 44 models have the PAH concentration exceeding the standard in their interior decoration. The home-grown Emgrand EC8 contains only 0.2mg/kg of PAH concentration, and it is one of the best in-car air quality among all the models tested.

In the middle August of 2012, China’s 22 organizations for consumer rights protection and Beijing Municipal Institute of Labor Protection jointly conducted an in-car air quality comparative test and released an In-car Air Quality Comparative Test Report. It is the first large-scale comparison test on cars in China. According to the Report, Geely Emgrand gave an impressive performance in air quality control among the 43 models detected; the methanol and ethanal concentration within Emgrand was far below the national standard. The other 6 volatile organic compounds were barely detected. This is another excellent performance Geely Emgrand has achieved in in-vehicle air quality control.

In-car air quality control has gained more attention from consumers with the sound development of the automobile market. China has implemented Guideline for Air Quality Assessment of Passenger Cars, which clearly sets out the concentration limits of 8 common volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in cars, including benzene, toluene, dimethylbenzene, ethylbenzene, styrene, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and acraldehyde, since March 2012 to urge automakers to focus on improving product quality and reducing in-car air pollution.

Li Shufu, Chairman of Geely Holding Group and member of the national committee of the CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference), submitted during CPC&CPPCC Sessions 2012 a Proposal on Improving In-vehicle Air Quality and Preventing In-vehicle Environmental Pollution, suggesting that national in-vehicle air quality standards should be made mandatory so as to enhance the competitiveness of China’s automotive products and prevent consumers from in-car air pollution. The proposal has drawn great attention from all circles of the society and has been hotly discussed; it speaks well for Geely’s considerable emphasis on in-vehicle air quality and consumer’s interests.

Geely has always attached great importance to the in-vehicle air quality control and kept improving technologies to reduce in-car air pollution. At the end of the year 2012, Geely announced that it has signed three technology cooperative agreements with Volvo, which allow Geely to adopt its in-car air quality technologies. The move will further improve the automaker’s air quality control standard in cars, ensuring drivers and passengers a comfortable carriage environment.
