ENVIRONMENTAL activists will meet in Kew tomorrow to question the Baillieu Government’s record on native forest logging, climate change and urban sprawl.
Victoria's four leading environment groups are hosting mid-term review of the State Government’s environmental performance.
Wilderness Society Community Campaigner Ben Campbell said in the two years since the Baillieu government took office, there had been a "string of backward steps on significant environmental issues like protection of natural places, native forest logging, climate change and urban sprawl.’’
"We know that our members and supporters in this area are very concerned about how Premier Baillieu is managing Victoria’s precious environmental assets,’’ Mr Campbell said.
Speakers on the evening will include Professor David Lindenmayer, one of Australia’s most respected ecologists, and Sarah Brenan and Julia Hamer, members of the Hamer Family, will also provide a personal reflection on the legacy of their father, Sir Rupert Hamer, former Liberal Premier of Victoria and the architect of Melbourne’s green wedges.
