Chairman of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate and renowned environment expert RK Pachauri expressed pleasure that Madhya Pradesh Government is alert and sensitive towards climate change. He also praised for the formation of climate cell in MP.

RK Pachauri further said that in Madhya Pradesh alone, Lighting a Billion Lives (LaBL) has been implemented in 108 villages across 10 districts impacting over 27,000 lives. Of these, more than 50 tribal villages and 22 are villages in protected areas. So far, 5,500 households have been lit by this campaign in MP, he added. While talking to mediapersons here on Thursday, Pachauri said that more than 100 green jobs have been created and over 70 village level committees and institutions have been strengthened. This has been possible with the help of around 10 partner organisations which include both Government agencies, such as MP Rural Livelihood Programme, District Poverty Initiatives Project, Rajya Shiksha Kendra and non-governmental organisations like the Corbett Foundation, WWF India Towards Action and Learning and Deendayal Research Institute.

The Director General of TERI, New Delhi, RK Pachauri and Director General, EPCO Iqbal Singh Bains signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard. The EPCO is preparing a project proposal for establishment of a knowledge management center and capacity building in the field of climate change.

Pachauri said that action plan and climate change should be implemented effectively to cope up with the situation arising out of advance climate change. He pointed out that the Ganga Cleanness Campaign could not be implemented effectively without involvement of common people.
