Award for protecting wildlife

A forest guard, who staked his life for conserving wildlife, gained belated recognition here on Sunday. Govinda had battled with poachers in the Nagarhole forest in a bid to protect wildlife.

The injured forest guard's valour was lauded in a function at the St. Joseph's Indian High School Ground.

Cricketer Harbhajan Singh presented the “Wildlife Service Award” to Govinda. Harbhajan Singh pledged his support to the cause of preserving nature besides raising awareness about the need to stop poaching of tigers.

The function was also graced by Minister for Small Scale Industries Raju Goud (Narasimha Naik), Principal Chief Conservator of Forest A.K. Varma and Anur Reddy, Managing Director, Jungle Lodges and Resorts.
