The mythological river Saraswati had got extinct; and if the other rivers were to be saved, integrated efforts on our part were earnestly needed. By preserving the water-resources we can combat with water crisis, which is looming large across the country. He stressed that natural imbalance needed to be corrected in view of the fact that many environmental-problems were caused due to imbalance in natural environment. We can even inspire the whole world for the same” said Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, while addressing a gathering in a workshop on “State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC)” in Dehradun on Saturday. He also reiterated that the State Government has given top priority to ensuring that the incessant flow of the rivers remained intact.

He further said that State Government had given top priority to ensuring that the incessant flow of the rivers remained intact. A concrete action-plan and an effective policy needed to be chalked-out in order to protect environment and maintaining the basic form of nature. The scientists must think in that perspective.

Millions of pilgrims, devotees, and tourists visit Uttarakhand every year, so it is challenge for the State Government to keep the pure natural environment in the State intact. The State Government has been working in this direction with its own resources. Tourists visiting the State are being requested not to throw garbage at the natural places. Use of plastic has been banned at the shrines. Besides, a novel scheme, like, Nakshatra Van Vatika has already been launched for ensuring environment-conservation and maintaining natural balance. Plantation of saplings by each and every person under this scheme will help serving the nature.

He said that collective efforts are needed for combating the ill-effects of climate-change because disparity on the earth is growing. “Existence of glaciers is endangered and they are continually receding. Great destruction all over the world is being caused by heavy rainfall and tsunami. All these factors needed serious contemplation. There is no co-ordination between nature and our attitude towards it, so the crisis of natural disparity had increased. A concrete action-plan is needed on our part to protect and conserve the nature. He expressed hope that the experts participating in the workshop would come up with new thoughts, ideas, and suggestions which would prove to be of great importance for combating the problem of climate-change. The works done by WWF-INDIA were commendable and the State Government would extend its support and co-operation in the efforts.

The workshop was also attended by Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar, Principal Conservator of Forests RBS Rawat, VC of HNBGCU Prof SK Singh, Additional Principal Conservator of Forests Jay Raj, Prof RC Sharma, Regional Head of WWF-INDIA Archana Chatterjee, Dr Sejal Vorah, and many other distinguished scientists and experts.
