‘Green India Mission to focus on tree plantation’

In a unique method to get rid of deforestation and to increase forest land, Green India Mission will be launched in the country with special focus to plant saplings and herbs in 10 million hectare land in the every corner of the county, said Principal Chief Conservator of Forest RBS Rawat at a Press conference in Dehradun on Saturday.

While speaking to mediapersons, Dr Rawat informed that the National Mission for a Green India is one of the eight missions under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC). He told that under the mission, special focus would be laid down on quality of forests with improving density.

He told that concrete steps would be also taken to on ecosystem services with emphasis on biodiversity, water and improved biomass. “Enhancing carbon sinks in sustainably managed forests and other ecosystems, adaptation of vulnerable species and adaptation of forest dependant local communities in the face of climatic variability,” he reiterated, adding that the project is likely to launch in the next year with a mission to cover 10 million hectare forest land.

He told every possible step will be taken to increase forest and tree cover on five million hectare of forest and non-forest land and improve quality of forest cover on the rest of hectare of land.
