Anantapur: As part of the initiative of Beyond Copenhagen Action against climate change, a “People's tribunal on livelihoods and climate change”, was organised by Action Fraterna for Southern States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala on at the AF Ecology Centre, here recently.
Small farmers, rain-fed farmers, tribals and others came from southern States to give testimonies on their livelihoods affected by climate change. They presented issues on agriculture, fisheris, livestock, forests etc.
Innovative mechanisms
Besides, many gave accounts of different innovative adaptive mechanisms and alternatives already being practiced by them which could be scaled up for supporting the livelihoods of the marginalised section of people in resource poor areas.
Action Fraterna director Malla Reddy observed that the governments across the world need to be sensitive to the issue of climate change and there is a strong need to awaken the public, particularly the rural people whose livelihoods are largely dependent on climate.
