On the occasion of National Bird Day, a bird photography exhibition and workshop on Conservation of Important Bird Area (IBA) of Satkosia-Panchadhara were organised at Athamallik by an Angul-based

NGO Nature Environment and Wildlife Society (NEWS). Athamallik DFO SN Jena inaugurated the photography exhibition and workshop.

Honorary wildlife warden Prasanna Kumar Behera presided over the workshop and highlighted the need to conserve birds. Environmentalist Pratyush Mohapatra presented a list on the status of the birds prepared by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Athamallik Kendu Leaf DFO A Das, Sub-Collector UK Tripathy and BDO Dilip Sahoo attended the programme and opined that due to the habitat loss, deforestation due to rapid industrialisation, agricultural development, rampant poaching and climate change, the number of some bird species has been declining.

Around 700 participants, including students, teachers, representatives of Vana Surakshaya Samitis, advocates and intellectuals attended the workshop.
