Patiala, December 11
Continuing their drive against the industrial units creating pollution, the teams of the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) raided M/s Luxmi Overseas Ltd, Fatehgarh Sahib, and checked the six industrial plants operational in the same premises.
The raids were held yesterday under the supervision of member secretary, Dr Babu Ram, one Chief Engineer, four senior environmental engineers, three scientific officer’s and supporting staff. They conducted a scientific and technical study of all these plants.
“The air and water samples were collected and sent to the head office laboratory of the Board for analysis,” said Dr Ram.
The officials said PPCB teams, headed by senior environmental engineer Samarjit Goyal, Krunesh Garg, Pardeep Gupta and Gulshan Rai and other officers, raided seven industrial units of Ludhiana and the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Air Pollution Control Devices (APCD) of which, six were operational.
PPCB Deputy Director (PR) Dr Charanjit Singh said a strong message was already been delivered to defaulting units through the raids. They have been directed to follow the prescribed norms or face the strict action.
