Poachers continue to hunt animals

Contrary to global efforts to help save wildlife from extinction, poachers continue to hunt down animals with impunity in forests of Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh.

The hunters have no fear of the forest department or the police administration, as they continue to poach their prey to rake in huge profits offered by the illicit wildlife organ and hide trade. The recent seizure of a leopard skin by the police from the new bus stand area of Shivpuri town has also failed to send alarms ringing in the forest department. The lackadaisical approach resulted in poachers shooting down a deer in a village under Pohari tehsil of the district this morning.

According to information some hunters shot dead a deer in village Toria of Pohari tehsil. Before the hunters could take away the body of the deer some villagers reached the spot and chased them away.

The villagers immediately brought the matter to the notice of the forest department, but the department team only arrived at the spot an hour after the incident. Local residents say there are a large number of deers in the Pohari forests but the number is fast diminishing due to rampant poaching.
