Coimbatore: A farmer Balamalai Gounder (70), who owns farm at Nanjundapuram in Thudialur area, sustained injuries when a pachyderm attacked him near his farm.

The farmer ventured into the farm in a bid to switch on the solar-powered fencing and was attacked by the elephant that had strayed into the farm from reserve forest.

In the last couple of days, a herd was moving around freely in Thadagam and Kanuvai areas. On Saturday and Sunday, the pachyderm unmindful of human movement strayed into main road.

Similarly, a herd is said to be on the move at night near Vadavalli, near the Uzhavar Sandhai, scaring the people. Forest officials have deployed anti-poaching watchers and anti-depredation watchers for chasing the herd back into the jungles.
