To move towards sustainable development, it is imperative to enlighten young minds and bring children from different parts of the world on a common platform to research, discuss and solve questions facing mankind.

Green Contributor and the University of Nurnberg (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg) have provided such a platform for the students of Bangalore.

Students of Ryan International School, Kundanahalli, Ryan International School, Yelahanka, and India International School are working together on this prestigious project.

Yashika Kalra, Megha Majumdar, Amrit Kaur, Aishwarya Murali, Vaishali Kumar, Pravallika Reddy, Akhil Yeerasam Aditya Menon, Sourav S.N., Volisha, and Neha are the students of both the Ryan schools, while Sureen Hasan, Silvia Gonsalves, Wisit Ngamsriwiset, Bright, and Deeraj are the participants from India International School. The project is on climate change. The students are involved in an in-depth study of climate change. They are learning about Copenhagen Conference and why countries could not come to any convergence, the difference in perception about it by people in different countries and identifying the gaps to bridge this. Through this project they are also tying to find solutions. They are involved in taking concrete actions locally and globally. They will understand that the key to solving problems is through global cooperation and collaboration.

They are going to do this by being connected with researchers from one of the largest universities in Germany, with some of the top schools from the advanced economies such as the U.S. and Germany.

Winners

The volleyball team of St. Claret School, Jalahalli, has once again emerged victorious at the Bangalore North district for under-14 volleyball tournament, held recently at Nagawara. The team was trained by Subba Reddy and Thirumalesh.

Memorable visit

Students of the Presidency School, Kasturi Nagar, celebrated Mahatma Gandhi's birthday in an unique way by paying a visit to Nightingales, a home for the old and people suffering from Alzheimer's, along with their teachers and director G. Thangadurai. They gifted the elders the beautiful cards they had made along with flowers reflecting their love and support for them. The students sang “Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram” and the inmates joined them. Merlyn Remedios, project coordinator, Nightingales expressed happiness over the gesture of the students and urged them to visit the inmates often.

A special guest

It was a surprise for the students of Maruthi Vidyalaya, Subbayanapalaya, when N. Dayanand, Deputy Mayor, paid a visit to the school. He is the former student of the school. He interacted with the students and recollected his memories of the school. He said that he spent 12 years in the school and they were the golden days of his life. Mr. Dayanand remarked that he imbibed values at the school. The students and staff members urged him to make Bangalore a model metropolis.
