Speaking at the award-giving ceremony of a State-level debate competition organised here on Friday by three power distribution companies, Nesco, Wesco and Southco, School and Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena, lauded the effort as a step in the right direction to create awareness about energy conservation among the youngsters and proposed to hold Sisu Melas in each block to encourage participation of children in development programmes and creation of awareness among them.
Minister of Energy Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak also appreciated the effort of the distribution companies in creating awareness among schoolchildren on a critical issue like energy conservation.
Chief guest Governor MC Bhandare, terming the competition as a good example of corporate social responsibility activity, said children are the best ambassadors of conservation efforts and the competition was a step in the right direction to integrate importance of energy conservation in their education.
Referring to the damaging effects of increasing use of fossil fuels, Bhandare said use of clean alternate energy is crucial to save the earth by stopping the effects of climate change, and steps for minimisation of use and wastage of energy are needed immediately. He distributed awards to the winners of the competition in English and Odia and the children who put up a cultural show.
Others who spoke in the meeting were Managing Director of Wesco, Nesco and director of Southco VK Sood, Puri MP Pinaki Mishra and the State’s standing counsel in the Supreme Court Suresh Chandra Tripathy.
