Nine held for poaching

RAIPUR: Nine Chhattisgarh villagers were arrested Friday for poaching a sambar and eating it, an official said.

The animal's skin was recovered from a house in Taldadar village. The men were arrested by the forest department for poaching inside the Barnawapara sanctuary, 85 km from here. The nine are aged 21 to 45 years.

The sanctuary covers an area of 245 sq km and has about 200 sambars, a dark brown and maned deer. A male sambar has sharp horns.
